Zomato, the food delivery giant, has invested ₹500 crore (around $60 million) in its quick-commerce arm, Blinkit. With this latest funding, Zomato’s total investment in Blinkit has reached ₹2,800 crore since the company acquired the platform.
Blinkit’s board approved the issuance of 2,537 equity shares at ₹19,70,181 per share to raise the ₹500 crore, according to regulatory filings.
This capital boost comes just two months after Zomato raised ₹8,500 crore through a Qualified Institutions Placement (QIP) to strengthen its financial standing. The QIP was aimed at fueling business growth and strategic projects, especially in the quick commerce space through Blinkit.
This is the second time in seven months that Zomato has injected funds into Blinkit. Back in June 2024, Zomato invested ₹300 crore (about $36 million) in the platform, which was previously known as Grofers. Blinkit was acquired by Zomato in an all-stock deal worth ₹4,477 crore ($568 million).
Zomato saw impressive growth in the second quarter of this fiscal year. Its operating revenue surged by 68.5% quarter-on-quarter to ₹4,799 crore from ₹2,848 crore in Q2 FY24. The company also reported a 4.8X increase in net profit, reaching ₹176 crore in the quarter ending September.
Blinkit also delivered strong performance in Q2 FY25, with its revenue growing 129% to ₹1,156 crore compared to ₹504 crore in Q2 FY24. This growth was fueled by higher order frequency and the addition of new stores, contributing significantly to Zomato’s overall revenue.
