How to become a successful Entrepreneur

Becoming a Successful Entrepreneur

Becoming an entrepreneur is a dream for many but only a reality for some and a long-term reality for fewer. Success as an entrepreneur, your ultimate goal is to take a business from zero to hero. For most of us, this doesn’t happen overnight. Typically, there will be trial and error as you wade through what will make your business successful.

Being successful often means learning from those who have already achieved their goals. Having a mentor is an amazing blessing to an entrepreneur, but not everyone can find one in person.

However, there are certain characteristics that can help you navigate your way to the top.

Challenge yourself – If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, you have to challenge yourself. No one else is going to push you, so it’s up to you to do it.

Richard Branson (Book) says his biggest motivation is to keep challenging himself. He treats life like one long university education, where he can learn more every day. You can too!

Challenges keep entrepreneurs nimble and on their toes. If you’re constantly looking for the next challenge, you’ll always be prepared for what comes your way.As an entrepreneur, you always have to be looking for the next big challenge.

Do work you care about -The key to keeping your business strategy moving forward is passion. Feeling half-hearted about an entrepreneurial project will really eat away at the drive you need to be successful

If you don’t love what you do, don’t do it. I truly believe it’s as simple as that.As an entrepreneur, you’re going to have to put in long hours and make sacrifices for your business. When you’re passionate about what you do, putting in the long hours won’t feel like a sacrifice anymore.

Take the risk – Successful entrepreneurship involves taking risks. If you don’t embrace risk-taking, you may want to rethink being a business owner.

Countless entrepreneurs have taken risks to get their businesses to where they are now. Taking risks, however, does not mean going into business blindly and then expecting great results. Taking risks in entrepreneurship involves careful planning and hard work.

Learn how to identify which risks are worth taking and you’ll learn how to be a successful entrepreneur.

Trust yourself – Your ability to trust and believe in yourself will show your confidence. People are more likely to follow and trust confident leaders.

As Henry Ford famously said, “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right.” Believe that you can succeed, and you’ll find ways through different obstacles. If you don’t, you’ll just find excuses.

When you feel uncertain, remember how much experience and knowledge you have. Most entrepreneurs start their business after years of experience working for someone else.

There’s nothing wrong with asking for help when you need it or turning to a mentor for advice, but you also have to learn to trust yourself and your own judgment without input from others.

Learn to trust yourself and you’re already starting down the path of entrepreneurial success.

Have a vision – The founder and CEO of Tumblr, David Karp, notes that an entrepreneur is someone who has a vision for something and a desire to create it. Keep your vision clear at all times.

The vision is basically the dream, the goal, the target of an entrepreneur for his/her company. Vision is basically a goal which an entrepreneur aspires to achieve and at the same time, it is what differentiates it from others.

As an entrepreneur you have to be very transparent about your goals, you should be able to envision your company’s goal and future in your head. The company goals must be achievable targets and also must match with the business world. You have to make sure that your vision is different from others and more efficient.

Face your fearsFear is a fundamental part of human psychology. Our brains are wired to feel fear because it helps us avoid calamity; it keeps us safe.Fear of failure can also change the nature of goals that entrepreneurs set for themselves.

Overcoming fear isn’t easy, but it must be done. Arianna Huffington once said that she found fearlessness was like a muscle — the more she exercised it, the stronger it became.

There are many common fears that entrepreneurs face. If we don’t confront those challenges, the fears will ultimately consume us. Whatever your fears are, now is the time to take them on and overcome what would otherwise keep you from succeeding.

Look for results, not reasons – One of my mentors, Marshall Thurber, would say: “There are reasons and there are results, the only thing that matters is the results.” Reasons are full of emotional biasses and are often wrong. Rather than guiding your business on the backend of assumptions, build it on data.

Innovate, innovate and (ALWAYS) innovate!  – Make sure your company wins the innovation game. Introduce fresh products, ideas, services, new ways of doing — not for the sake of just coming up with something “new,” but to anticipate what else you can do to help your customers achieve a greater result.

Get inspired – Being an entrepreneur is a creative pursuit. As an entrepreneur, you have to make connections, solve problems, and create new things that no one has thought of before.

Creators and creatives need to be inspired.Successful entrepreneurs take time for the things that inspire them.

Conclusion – Succeeding in business doesn’t require overnight success. In fact, that’s largely a myth. You can do it, but only if you’re aware of the potential pitfalls and ready to fail.

Finding success as an entrepreneur is no easy task, but with these simple tips, I hope it becomes just a little bit easier.

Remember, my biggest challenge to all of you entrepreneurs out there is to take some time off and to listen to complaints. I think these tips are often forgotten but are so important to being a successful entrepreneur.
