Engineering-focused edtech startup Skill-Lync has acquired experiential learning platform Crio for tech careers. With this acquisition, Crio will operate as an independent brand under the Skill-Lync Group.
Post-acquisition, the founders will continue to focus on and run Crio’s business as well as grow its market leadership. According to Skill Lync, it acquired Crio to provide high-quality learning opportunities to engineers. With Crio’s offering in computer science, Skill – Lync will strengthen its leadership in the higher education space. Both companies aim to support over 25,000 students with relevant jobs in the next 2-3 years.
Founded in 2018 by Rathinamurthy R and Sridher Jeyachandran, Crio is an experiential learning platform for tech careers. It helps students and professionals to learn practical skills by working on real-world projects and helps them land their respective jobs. The startup is backed by Binny Bansal and other Flipkart employees.
Skill-Lync focuses on providing industry-relevant and job-leading courses for engineering students/graduates across all disciplines. It claims that 30,000 students from all parts of India are pursuing coursework curated by global industry experts and validated by more than 350 hiring companies.
Edtech saw the most number of mergers and acquisitions in the past few months, according to a report by Entrackr. In October, Veranda Learning announced the acquisition of J. K. Shah classes for about $42 million followed by the majority stake acquisition of Deeksha by Vedantu in a $40 million deal. Edtech unicorn PhysicsWallah also made a couple of acquisitions in the last month. The acquisition of a majority stake in Coding Ninjas is also an addition after the funding winter and layoff season for edtech startups.
