Funding and acquisitions in Indian startups this week [19-24 Dec]

This week, 25 Indian startups raised funding of which 21 received a total of about $481.1 million. BigBasket and Tredence were the top fundraisers which scooped up $200 million and $175 million respectively. Last week, 27 homegrown startups raised funding worth about $208 million.  

Meanwhile, the transaction details of five startups remained undisclosed. 

Growth/late-stage deals 

This week, five growth or late-stage startups announced their fundraise. The list includes  BigBasket’s $200 million round along with Tredence, BetterPlace, CollegeDekho, and Eggoz among others.

Early-stage deals 

In the early-stage, 20 startups have raised funds including five undisclosed rounds. Aquatech startup Aquaconnect was on top of the list with a $15 million Series A round. The list also includes EV firm BatterySmart, The Ayurveda Experience, TurningMinds, Beco, and Immensita among others.

Undisclosed deals    

BizeeBuy,  What’s Up, Octonam Tech, iRasus, and Codebuddy did not disclose their financial details.   

City and segment-wise deals    

This week, Bengaluru-based startups were on top in terms of the number of deals. According to Fintrackr’s data, 10 Bengaluru-based startups have raised funds this week amounting to $424 million or 88% of the total funding. During the week, Delhi-NCR-based startups raised $36.3 million across 9 deals. 

The complete breakdown of deals across cities and segments in the first half can be seen below: 

D2C brands were the top segment in terms of the number of deals as startups in this space raised $20 million across four deals. Edtech, EV, e-grocery, AI and HRtech startups were next on the list. 

Acquisitions

Apart from fundraising, the week also saw four acquisitions. The list includes the acquisition of Lemnisk by Bharti Airtel and MensXP, iDiva and Hypp by Mensa Brands.

Fund Launches

This week also saw one fund launch of Northern Arc Fund’s $7.8 million fund.
