Streamlining Construction: AI-Powered Permitting with Greenlite

Construction permitting is a lengthy and unpredictable process that can cause frustration for developers and businesses. With tens of thousands of jurisdictions, each with its own unique forms and application processes, the process can be overwhelming.

Ben Allen, who once led business expansion and strategy at Gopuff, knows the challenges of permitting firsthand. When he and his team attempted to launch ghost kitchens in hundreds of locations across the US, obtaining necessary building permits was the biggest obstacle they faced.

Allen believes that the permitting process is outdated and manual, with some governing bodies only accepting or reviewing permit plans on specific days and at specific hours. This can lead to a costly and time-consuming cycle.

After leaving Gopuff, Allen was inspired to create a solution to this problem with his former colleague James Gallagher. They launched Greenlite, a platform that aims to standardize the permitting process across multiple jurisdictions.

Using Greenlite’s platform, customers can conduct construction plan reviews almost entirely through software. This allows for faster and more transparent permitting, and Greenlite is authorized to review construction plans and perform building inspections in over 2,000 jurisdictions.

Greenlite’s platform integrates construction drawings, zoning and use data, local building code, and expert compliance markup, making it a unique solution in the market. The company has dozens of clients and has raised $36.5 million in funding to date. With fresh capital, Greenlite plans to expand its market reach and customer acquisition in segments like lodging, industrial, and green infrastructure.
