Google Creates New Sensors to Quickly Find Wildfires Everywhere

Next year, Google is going to help stop wildfires by launching a group of satellites into space. These satellites will work with special instruments to take pictures of the Earth’s surface every 20 minutes and send them to authorities. Google helped create the instruments that use infrared sensors to detect the heat of fires. Currently, fire agencies are limited to getting either high-quality pictures less often or lower-quality pictures more often. With FireSat, the goal is to detect small fires that are easy to put out before they spread. The first satellite will launch in 2025, and many more will follow in the years to come.
