Apple is facing a looming deadline to provide over 1 million documents related to recent changes made to the App Store. The company had asked for an extension, but a judge denied the request.
The dispute between Apple and Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, has been ongoing for a while. Apple was successful in court, but the judge also ordered the company to make changes to the App Store rules, giving developers more freedom to collect payments.
After the changes, Epic Games felt that Apple wasn’t complying with the new rules in good faith. So, the judge ordered Apple to provide documents showing how it decided on the new rules. Apple thought this would take a while, but when it looked at the documents, it found over 1.3 million of them!
The judge wasn’t happy with Apple’s request for more time to review the documents. He said that Apple had been aware of the number of documents for weeks, but still waited until just before the deadline to claim it needed more time.
The judge even compared Apple’s claim to a company with “nearly infinite resources” just being able to review that many documents in one weekend.
